The process of Cold Hammer Forging barrels has been proven for decades to produce the most accurate, longest lasting rifle barrels obtainable.  Cold Hammer Forging of barrels is achieved through the application of extreme mechanical and hydraulic pressures at opposing angles by carbide or hardened steel hammers. During the hammering process, a precision ground carbide mandrel is inserted into the bore shaping the hammered material around the mandrel to create the rifling. 

The preparation and care of the pre-forged blank by SAND Hammer Forging equates to impeccable barrel straightness and rifling quality during the Cold Hammer Forging process.  This attention to detail improves the quality of the bore in the finished forged blank.  Because of this direct relationship between the precondition and end product quality, SAND Hammer Forging, maintains strict tolerances in bore surface finishes and overall bore concentricity prior to the forging process to ensure its rifle barrels are as accurate as possible.

Through careful planning to suit customer needs, SAND Hammer Forging can offer CHF blanks for all forms of finish coatings.  This can mean utilizing a true to size bore for protective Melonite ( also referred to as Salt Bath Nitriding) coating that surface-hardens the metal to produce an extremely hard, slick surface on steel that resists carbon adhesion and increases corrosion resistance, making for easier cleaning and maintenance.  Or it can mean forging a dimensionally oversized bore to allow for the application of hard chrome to fulfill the requirements of any contract or OEM design.  Either way, the premium quality of manufacturing in our CHF blanks is allowed to shine directly through to the finished product.
